I cannot put this book down!!!!!!!! It's appropriate for about level 3. It's gripping, well-researched and based on a true story.
Mercer again pulls off a compelling story, but this time from the perspective of Yanga, a slave in Mexico who leads a rebellion, rescues other slaves and creates a village in the mountains of free men and women. Historical fiction based on a true story that will keep you on the edge of your seat from Africa to the Mexican mountains. The research on this novel is deep and careful and the commissioned artwork is perfect.
